We all know you can find accessories for the iPod almost anywhere you go. Most of these same manufactures are busy making accessories for the soon to be released iPhone.

The minute Jobs’ presentation at Macworld in San Francisco ended, Griffin employees began working on a lineup of iPhone carry cases, screen protectors and other accessories that will go on sale on June 29, the day AT&T will begin selling the phone, said Griffin spokeswoman Jackie Ballinger.

Apple and telecom giant AT&T Inc. aren’t the only companies with a stake in the phone’s success. Like Griffin, other accessories makers are placing big bets on the iPhone - and the resulting need for iPhone accessories. They include RadTech LLC of Earth City, Mo.; Marware Inc. of Hollywood, Fla.; and Belkin International Inc. of Compton, Calif.

Their payoff could be relatively huge, if the $1 billion a year spent on Apple iPod accessories is any indication.

Apple believes it can sell 10 million iPhones by the end of next year, and plans on having three million phones in stores on June 29. Meanwhile, the iPhone also will support most existing accessories for the iPod, owing to the fact that it’s also a music player. This means accessories makers are catering to a rather large, and lucrative, audience.

But these companies’ risk is potentially just as large as the possible payoff. IPhone accessory sales are expected to become a large chunk of their profits this year. For instance, maker Marware expects sales of iPhone accessories to make up 20% to 30% of overall sales this year, said Paola Zuniga, a company spokeswoman.

bt_head.jpgFirst announced at Macworld expo in January, a remarkably compact Bluetooth headset that automatically pairs with iPhone. It’s now listed in the description on Apple’s iPhone High Technology page. Apple confirms the new headset will support Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR.

The company’s original press release detailing the iPhone describes the Bluetooth headset briefly: “Several iPhone accessories will also be available in June.

flipcover.jpgThe iPhone release is still 4 months away, well OK (129 days, 14 hours, 36 mins) at the time of this post, but who is counting. Accessories makers are already at it. I predict 200 iPhone accessories by this time next year. Here is a Black Leather Flip Case from the iPhone. I believe this is a generic cover and not a custom iPhone accessory.

gomadic_case.jpgGomadic iPhone Accessories Available Now!: “Within a matter of weeks of the iPhone’s announcement, a mobile accessory company by the name of Gomadic has already released a batch of high quality accessories. Whilst you can buy directly from Gomadic’s website, I came across these accessories on Amazon.com.

A number of accessories that are included are a USB lead ($17.95) which charges the iPhone and syncs up data simultaneously, a powered lighter for your car ($39.95) which includes a dock to hold the iPhone, a snazy leather case ($39.95) with a belt clip, an emergency battery pack ($59.95) and even a bluetooth wireless headset ($99.95) - the latter of which Apple is apparently supplying with the iPhone at launch, although this isn’t confirmed.

It’s interesting to see so many power kits available in different forms from Gomadic, and I dare say this won’t be the last company to offer such accessories. Perhaps Apple should take note of this and up the battery life a little bit before launch?
