Ok, so here’s a guy that’s dreaming. VIM3 blog clams to have “inside” info on several unannounced iPhone features. I don’t think Apple would intentionally leave out all of these features. We examine below.

Here’s the low down:

4 and 8 gig?! There’s more Memory! - The iPhone will be sporting a substantially “larger” flash memory drive that first announced. There will be two models one with about 40% less memory than the other. This explains the the 100 dollar difference in price from the smaller model to the larger. (Note: Makes sense…at the 4 and 8 gig sizes, the Nano size premium is only 50 dollars…why would the iPhone be 100?)

iPhonePlanet: notice how they give no clam to size. This would be nice but …… not going to happen.

User Replacable Battery - The iPod has been critized by many for not having a way for the user to have the battery replacable by the user. Well, the iPhone guys heard you…at least for the iPhone. The iPhone will sport a way to replace the battery. The lower speaker area of the iPhone slides down to reveal a battery…(this was not featured in the Macworld display model). No more worries of 3 hour battery life.

iPhonePlanet: no iPod has every had a user replaceable battery. First gen iPhone …. not going to happen.

Wireless N Support - The iPhone features a wireless chipset, which includes draft-N support. Nothing more to say here.

iPhonePlanet: why would this be a secret?

Software - Why was OS X delayed? Maybe because teams have been hard at work on iPhone software? The iPhone will feature variations of iWork and iLife suites. The iPhone variation of iWork will feature word processing, spreadsheets, and a slideshow viewer.

iPhonePlanet: now this I could see and really use. I see this coming in a software update at a later date, but ……. not going to happen .. out of the box.

iTunes Streaming - Want to listen to something on your computer that not on you iPhone? iPhone features built in Bonjour (from OS X)! The iPhone will allow you to stream content from an iTunes computer on a Wi-Fi network! You can watch The Incredibles on your iPhone without taking up disk space!

iPhonePlanet: I like the concept and this may come true, but …. not going to happen …. out of the box.

iTunes Store - Ever want to buy those DRM free EMI music on your phone? The iPhone can let you do that! The iPhone features a variation of the iTunes Store, which allows you to buy pretty much anything already available. The service will allow you to download using Wi-Fi internet or if you have internet service through your carrier (AT&T in the USA). The best part is…you can transfer your purchases to your computer. Just as iPhone copies media from your computer, iPhone utilizes iTunes “Transfer Purchases” to copy your recent iPhone/iTunes Store purchases.

iPhonePlanet: again possible future feature.

Price / AT&T Service Plans - The 500 or 600 buck price point seem a little high? Steve knows it high, but would u buy an iPod in Feburary or March if the price difference between an iPod Video and iPhone wasn’t that great? You might have waited. The iPhone will see a rebate with a 2-year contract and special iPhone plans from AT&T.

iPhonePlanet: the opening price’s are set in stone ….. expect nothing different.

According to an AT&T manager at a local store, the official release date for the iPhone is June 29th, with stores receiving shipments on June 28th. Apple has yet to confirm a release date, only saying the iPhone is on track for a “late June release”.

The head manager at the AT&T store stated shipments will arrive at roughly 4pm central time on June 28th and will be available for sale the following day. The manager referenced a corporate email as the source of her information.

apple_truck.jpgThe release of Apple’s iPhone is getting close. For the last six months the news has been all over the place. Perhaps one of the most anticipated electronic product launches ever.

Our sources inside Cingular AT&T have told us the iPhone will be delivered to some company stores via armored truck. We laughed at this too, but then realized all the implications. We were told that during the launch of the Moto Razr several hundred units went missing, and to combat would-be thief’s all precautions would be taken by Cingular AT&T. “We are currently scrambling trying to get store’s ready for delivery. Management staff has been told no vacation time will be granted during the initial lunch period.”

google-mobile_phones-wireless-search_engines_sci.jpg

Today, Google squashed talk of them developing a mobile phone that would compete with Apple’s iPhone.

The search giant said it was more logical to form partnerships with existing handset makers instead. They reiterated that they are focused on software and not hardware.

Rumors surfaced a few weeks ago that Google would throw its hat into the cell phone ring with its own GPhone after Google filed a patent that details an application that can predict what a user is searching for or the words they are typing in a text message by taking into account the users location, previous searching / messaging history and even the time of day.

iPhone_googlemaps.jpgGoogle isn’t focused on making its own phone, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. Instead, he said, it’s looking to build applications that could work with iPhone and other new smartphones. Google wouldn’t be the only one looking to benefit from the device. The advertising industry is exploring its possibilities as well.

Despite talk that Google is developing its own mobile phone, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster feels that the search giant is working with Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) , not against it, in the mobile phone space.

Speculation that Google hired several employees away from Sidekick to work on a mobile phone may also be misguided.

iphone_keyboard.jpgApple is going to create a “mega-platform” of devices based around the multi-touch display introduced by the iPhone.

Analyst Ben Reitzes encouraged his clients to look past the minute details of the initial iPhone and focus on the power that lies in the ‘unannounced’ multi-touch ecosystem that will eventually find its way into several products across the company’s product portfolio.

Reitzes claims that Apple is in a position with the multi-touch platform as it was in 2001-2003 when it launched its first iPods with the popular click wheels. The UBS analyst said he expects the new platform to become prevalent in each of the consumer electronics maker’s major hardware products within 3-5 years, possibly sparking touchscreen Macs later this holiday season or sometime in 2008. Among his expectations are touch-screen iMacs, as well as “tablet-like” notebook devices that provide basic computing without the need for a keyboard or stylus if the user desires to keep the device closed.

jack.jpgBe the first to see this not-yet-released Cingular iPhone ad, revealed by a reliable source in a private iPhone consumer survey from Pinecone Research.

It appears the iPhone rate plans from Cingular may be the same as Cingular’s current plan options: $39.99 a month for 450 minutes, unlimited mobile to mobile calling, and 5,000 night and weekend minutes. The data plans will start at $4.99 a month for 200 messages OR a $19.99 a month data plan for 200 messages plus unlimited Internet and Visual Voicemail.

The Cingular iPhone ad lists iPhone prices as $299 for the 4GB model and $399 for the 8GB model.

bmwhoax.jpgiPhonePlanet We did report the original story that started circulating yesterday because we felt it was a hoax. It was.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it appears that the AutoSpies rumor of iPhone integration into the new BMW 7-series is a hoax - well the image is anyways. Knowing that I could find the source image on Google Images, I searched for “BMW navigation” and it came up on the 9th page. Looks like all they did was do a bit of Photoshop (as expected) to fool everyone.

I’m not saying that a deal between Apple and BMW is not possible, but all we have to go on at this point is a tip and an image, and the image is indeed a fake.

att_cingular_logo.jpgEver since the partnership between Apple and Cingular/AT&T was announced for the iPhone, there has been a lot of speculation about whether Cingular was going to be paying out royalties to Apple. On one hand, Apple was already making a hefty profit on sales of its own device through Cingular, people argued, and therefore shouldn’t need royalties. On the other hand, Cingular has Apple to thank for choosing them as the exclusive provider of a product what will undoubtedly increase Cingular’s subscriber base—at least for a while.

The latter camp is where Michael Rollins of the Citigroup Investment Research stands, saying that Cingular could be poised to pay out $250 to $300 to Apple for each new subscriber brought in by iPhone sales. Cingular already has a similar deal with Radio Shack, who also earns about $300 for closing new service contracts for Cingular.

This, however, is all mostly just speculation. The reason for the royalty is supposedly to motivate Apple to sell more iPhones for use with Cingular/AT&T in light of declining subscriber growth. But does Apple really need an extra incentive to sell its own hardware—particularly, a gadget that Apple self-describes as “revolutionary” and intends to sell with the same vigor as iPods and hotcakes? It certainly seems as if such an incentive for Apple is not really necessary, and would certainly save Cingular some bling if they didn’t have to pay out such hefty royalties for each sale.
